Wenge & Osage Orange Display Jar

This Wenge & Osage Orange Display Jar was another Christmas gift this year.

The base is a solid piece of Wenge, while the lid is made with Wenge & Osage Orange by a process known as segmented turning**. The knob, or finial, is made from African Blackwood.

**Segmented turning is turning on a lathe where the initial work piece is composed of multiple glued-together parts. The process involves gluing up several pieces of wood to create patterns and visual effects in turned projects. More information at Wikipedia.

MORE SEGMENTED TURNING

Display jars are great for all kinds of things! Candies, beads, balls, corks, buttons, stones… anything you can think of would look great in a display jar. This one is a little bigger at just over 10 inches & would be great for a doll, or other collectable you want to protect while still being able to look at it.

Padauk Desk Clock

This African Padauk Desk Clock was made as a Christmas gift. Inlay is African Blackwood.

The clock insert is available with Roman (pictured) or Arabic numerals, and is 72mm (just under 2 7/8″) in diameter.

Clocks are always a great gift idea & can be made to your specifications.

Custom Pool Cue

A custom pool cue, made from dyed resin, with walnut and maple woods.

The butt end of the cue was made by pressure casting resin embedded with walnut pieces, around a solid maple shaft for a solid hit. The blank is cured, turned round and tapered on the lathe. A brass butt cap with rubber stopper was added to protect the cue while resting the butt on the floor.

The solid maple shaft is fit with a brass joint connector, and tipped with a solid brass ferrule, adding an elegant look. The 12mm tip makes it great for 8 or 9 ball!

This custom pool cue is 57″ OAL and weighs in at just shy of 20oz.

Happy Hydroponics Sign

The Happy Hydroponics sign is 24″ in diameter and is custom made, from pine, on the CNC router & hand painted.

It is protected with multiple coats of spar varnish. Although it adds “warmth” to natural woods, it preserves color and protects your sign in direct sunlight or weather.

Solid Cherry Beavertail Paddle

A solid cherry canoe paddle, in the beaver tail design.  Overall length is 60″ (152CM), with a blade size of 26″ x 6.5″ (66cm x 16.5cm).

Handcrafted from a single piece of wood, cherry is not only visually appealing, but lightweight and strong.  The oval shaft & contour palm-grip won’t hurt your hands and is easy to index.  The blade is thin, which provides flexibility, while maintaining strength.

The beaver tail paddle is a well-tested design, which is a general use paddle, made for deeper, flat water, particularly when paddling from the bow.  It has a slightly narrower blade, which slices through the water beautifully.  Great for all levels of canoeists, whether you canoe for sport or recreation.

A solid cherry canoe paddle – what a great gift idea for the outdoors-person!

Mahogany Shadow Box Display Case

This was a fun project! It’s a 16″ x 16″ mahogany shadow box display case, made from South African Mahogany with Chakte Kok inlays and lined with red velvet flocking. It’s 4″ high, with a 14″ x 14″ glass viewing area. Trimmed with brass hinges, lid stays, lock & key!

What is a shadow box?

A shadow box is an enclosed glass-front display case containing an object or objects presented in a thematic grouping with artistic or personal significance. The grouping of the objects and the depth effect created by their relative heights from the backing creates a dramatic visual result. **

By tradition, shadow boxes are typically presented to members of the military upon retirement. These shadow boxes will usually contain the various medals and awards a person has earned through a military career, the flags of both their country and their military service branch, and their final badge of rank. **

Reclaimed Pallet Wood Coffee Table

My reclaimed pallet wood coffee table was a fun project that started off simply with a leftover pallet from a delivery. I started breaking down the pallet and, even though it was splotched with blue paint, the wood looked to be in good shape. I plucked a board out, put it through the thickness planer to clean it up and it was beautiful! What should I do with it? Well, I just happen to need a coffee table.

The frame is made from 1″ square steel tube, cut to length, welded together, primed and painted matte black.

The boards were jointed together in two groups, creating “halves”. They were then sent through the thickness planer, to get a uniform thickness on both halves, which were then glued together to form the top. The entire top was then flattened by hand, dry sanded to 400 and finished with multiple coats of lacquer.

Nail holes were left untouched to add accent to this great piece!

** I made this reclaimed pallet wood coffee table for me, but everything is for sale. It’s not in my store, but contact me if you’d like to own it.

60″ Olivewood Charcuterie Board

This 60″ Olivewood Charcuterie Board was made from 5/4 solid stock with live edges, for a client with very specific tastes. The board sits on small feet, also made from Olivewood, & finished with felt pads to protect your table surface. The handles are custom forged square stock, painted black.

Olivewood comes from Europe & is a beautiful wood. Shades of cream / yellowish-brown, accented with dark streaks are sure to add to any decor.

Segmented Teak Bowl with Padauk Accent

Segmented Teak Salad Bowl

A hand-turned, segmented Teak bowl with Padauk accent rings. This piece was made by gluing pieces (segments) of Teak, that have been cut to a specific angle in order to create “rings” when assembled. Individual rings then glued together to form the bowl, which is then hand-turned on a wood lathe.

The segmented Teak bowl measures 10.25″ in diameter x 4.5″ high (26cm x 11.5cm). It is finished with multiple coats of our own salad bowl finish. Everything is 100% food safe!

Some maintenance is required to keep your wood bowl beautiful for years to come. Instructions, along with 50ml of our own salad bowl finish are included with your purchase!
