A segmented Sapele & Walnut vase, with black veneer accents.
Materials: Sapele, Walnut, Birch (dyed black)
Completed: October 2019. It is comprised of 24 segmented** rings (plus the base) with over 850 individual pieces!
Measuring: 19.5″ high x 7.25″ wide (top) x 3.625″ wide (bottom). (49.5cm x 18.4cm x 9.2cm)
Finish: multiple coats of Danish Oil & a protective layer of clear lacquer.
**Segmented turning is turning on a lathe where the initial workpiece is composed of multiple glued-together parts. The process involves gluing up several pieces of wood to create patterns and visual effects in turned projects. More information at Wikipedia.
