front diff on my 1996 blazer 4wd not engaging.

Last year we had to pull my 4wd sideways off my lake lot (stuck on some slate rock). We damaged the inlet for the actuator cable going into the diff. It wasn't bad so I J.B. welded the crack back so I wouldn't leak fluid. Two days ago I replaced the actuator hoping that would fix it but it didn't. Any suggestions ? What does the sensor do located above where the cable goes in the diff ? Thanks so much. This site is the greatest. Oh, and people can't complain about the blazers much. Mine has 190,000 on her and this is the only problem she's got.

Hi Russ; Does the drivers

Hi Russ;

Does the drivers side wheel engage when in 4WD? It should as it is directly connected to the front diff and should engage as soon as you put it in 4WD. The front right (passengers) is controlled by the actuator cable and is actuated by vacuum. If the cable is pinched/bent/etc. I could imagine that the cable will not fully engage the gears inside the front diff and therefor cause the front right wheel to not engage... but the drivers side should still engage. If not, I'd suspect front diff problems.
